Synchronicity??
I think that it was supposed to happen this way; and this is why.
Al and I met
exactly 5 years ago to the day at the very same place and event that he earned his
MACH at.
Heather and I had met AL's breeder at the Seattle Kennel Club Show to show
him how Gracie was turning out as we had "rescued" her with him from Grace's
co-owner. I just happened to mention that I was thinking of getting an IG
puppy, but wasn't ready yet... Bill said I've got a little boy here with me
that you might want to meet and pointed to a crate near his grooming table. At
the grate were 2 pairs of eyes, but one pair was really jumping around and
really wanted to see what was going on. I said sure. Bill opened the door and
out popped Al who was then called Buddy, and he headed straight toward me and
climbed my leg. I picked him up and Bill said take him for a walk if you want.
I said sure and put on the leash and 15 feet later Al was mine and I was his!!

While we waited for Bill Monohon (The breeder)
to keep Al for the afternoon and for Bill to say his goodbyes to Al, I watched
Agility for the very first time. In the same building that Al would earn
his MACH title in 5 years later. .
I'd never seen Agility before and was
thrilled about it, and decided then that Al and I would try it someday soon!
Al earned his very first MACH points under the
very same judge that he completed his MACH with.
The judge Kurt Matushek had only been here twice!!
If you remember Al was given the first Zoe Memorial Achievement Award at Thanksgiving (2004)!! Just before he got very sick.

Zoe who was so loved and mourned when she was killed by a raccoon, also earned her MACH with a "perfect weekend". That was her first and only perfect weekend, and this was Al's first perfect weekend too!! I didn't know about this until later that night when I talked with Karla Kimmey, Zoe's owner, who was as astounded as I was to know that both Al and Zoe who have had so many similar things happen to them in their lives, could now share having earned a MACH on a perfect weekend!! So this was meant to happen when it did!! All those double Q's that I messed
up in the previous Fall because of handling errors by me were meant to happen so that
everything could come together on March 12th, 2006
When I packed Al up after the trial and started to walk him to the van, I
started to think of the events of the day and our history. I had already
realized that I had brought Al home 5 years ago to the day, and that the event
was the first time I'd seen Dog Agility. When I was walking out to the
van with my crate, cooler and chair in my arms, I had an Oh, My
God!! moment. I realized that Al's first
MACH points and last Double Q were earned with Kurt Matushek. We had
started and finished our MACH with him. When I realized this I just
lost it as I walked through the parking lot to the van. I just broke
down and sobbed. An observer would have thought something terrible must have
just happened. I'm still all emotional about it!!
It was supposed to happen this way!!
