Evergreen Afghan Hound Club Trial

Al had some good runs this weekend but no double Qs. On Saturday, he was having a great Std. run, we go to the table which was a down, Al did a fast drop into the down, but broke the count at and 2..and … , I gave him the hand signal to drop and at the same time took a step back, and Al came Off!!. We got back on and finished the count in 40 degree weather, and finished in good time. A Good run, he gave me good contacts and was speedy, but he didn’t Q. We would have placed 3rd had he not had the table fault.
In the afternoon, I was psyched for JWW and we ran very hard. A super fast Sheltie from Alaska come to compete and she did well, but couldn’t hold the run together, and had some missed jumps and NQ’d. When I ran Al, I was running him as if we could take first, and he helped me. This is the first run that I have watched myself, where I am happy with the front crosses that I did. My second one could have been better and had it been, we probably would have taken first place, but we placed 3rd, .40 seconds behind the winner. Still, I’m very happy with the run, and hope that I can have more FCs like these.
On Sunday, I had more grief in the Standard course as we were having a great run again, on a very, very tough course. We had gotten through a tough A Frame / Tunnel discrimination, a hard angle approach to a tire which required the dogs to jump through the tire at such an angle that they were barely making it through. We made a tough weave pole entry at a hard angle, had a fast table, an enthusiastic and fast teeter, and were on our way home with just 3 obstacles left. A closed chute and two jumps. Al ran hard towards the chute, almost had his nose in, the then veered off course about 5 feet and ran along the side of the course where there were some horse gates and openings under the gates that he could see under. I think he thought he saw a cat, or a rat or…? Anyway, he was a good boy, and never stopped, just turned off course and was just as quickly back with me at full speed going through the chute. Another bad bit of luck!! I’m still very happy with the run, because he would have placed without the refusal, and he gave me great effort and good contacts.
The Sunday JWW run was a really fun design. I was going for first place again!! This time Heidi and her 12" sheltie Dot, from Alaska, didn’t crash and burn, and they had a beautiful run and Q’d.
Al and I had a run I am really proud of too, but it wasn’t enough to beat Dot. We did come in 2nd though, beating all the fast 12 inch dogs from these parts and some from from Alaska, Montana, and a few from Oregon.
Some JWW Statistics/Analysis.

Time 27.91 seconds, SCT 42 seconds.

Sunday: Time 27.97 Seconds. SCT 43 Seconds
There were 134 Excellent Dogs running.

Saturday’s run was the best of his two runs relative to the whole field of dogs, but for dogs within the 8’s, 12’s and 16’s he did better on Sunday. What does this mean? I haven’t a clue.
Just to give you an idea of the type of competition there is at our meets.
